ContactBooking & consultations
Why do I need a consultation first?
Every new laser or IPL treatment starts with a consultation and patch test. We check your skin, your medical history and your goals, and test the treatment on a small area. It is how we keep you safe. Facials do not need one: Emily has a short skin chat with you on the day.
How much is the consultation?
£10, including the patch test. It is credited against your first treatment.
What happens at the patch test?
Once we have gone through your skin, hair and medical history, we test a few shots on a discreet spot, such as behind the ear, the inner wrist or the ankle. It is a safety check, not a treatment, and we watch how your skin reacts over 24 hours.
How long after the patch test can I start?
At least 24 hours. For a carbon facial we wait 24 to 48 hours.
Can I rearrange my appointment?
Yes, as long as you contact us at least 24 hours before by email or WhatsApp. See our terms for the full cancellation policy.
Where are you?
Our studio is on Crannaford Lane, Exeter EX5 3BD, and we see clients from Exeter, Honiton, Newton Abbot, Exmouth, Torbay, Crediton and Axminster.
Safety & suitability
Is IPL safe for my skin type?
Our IPL system is suitable up to skin type IV. We assess your skin type at the consultation and will always tell you if a treatment is not right for you.
Who should not have treatment?
If you have had surgery in the last six months, or take medication that makes your skin sensitive to light, please email us before booking so we can check first.
Is there an age limit?
Yes. You must be 18 or over for a patch test or any laser or IPL treatment.
I take antibiotics, antidepressants or St John's wort
Some of these make skin more sensitive to light, which raises the risk of redness, blistering or pigment changes. We cannot treat you without a letter from your GP, and usually not until you have been off the medication for a while, often 12 months.
I take acne or blood pressure medication
Acne medication makes skin sensitive to light, so we wait 12 months after you stop it. Some blood pressure medicines do the same, and we need a letter from your GP before treating you.
I'm diabetic, or I have epilepsy
Diabetes can slow healing and change how skin feels, so we may ask for a letter from your doctor. With epilepsy we always protect your eyes from the flashes, and may ask for a letter outlining your triggers.
Can I have treatment on tanned skin?
No. We never treat tanned skin, natural or fake, and you may need to wait until your skin is back to its usual colour. Tell us if you have a tan, sunburn or a skin reaction.
I have a tattoo or a mole in the area
That is fine. We cover tattoos and moles with white so the light never touches them. We cannot remove hair growing from a tattoo; for hair from a mole we recommend electrolysis.
I have a skin infection
If there is an active fungal, bacterial or viral infection in the area, such as a cold sore, we wait until it has fully cleared before a patch test or treatment.
Treatments
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the treatment and on you. Hair removal is a course of 8, 4 to 8 weeks apart. Skin treatments are a course of 3, and tattoo removal often 6 to 12. We plan your course at the consultation.
Do you offer gender-affirming hair removal?
Yes. It is booked as its own treatment, with every appointment a little longer, at the same price.
Is radiotherapy tattoo removal free?
It will be. Free removal of radiotherapy marker tattoos starts in early 2027, along with tattoo removal. Get in touch and we will let you know as soon as bookings open.
