Aftercare

The days after a treatment matter as much as the treatment itself. Here is how to look after your skin, whichever treatment you had.

Something does not feel right? Contact us straight away if you notice blistering that spreads, signs of infection, or pain that gets worse instead of better. In an emergency, call 111 or 999. You can also reach us by email at info@smoothpeach.com or on WhatsApp @smoothpeach.

After every treatment

  • Keep the area out of direct sun and wear SPF 50 every day for at least 4 weeks.
  • No sun beds, fake tan, saunas, steam rooms or hot baths for 48 hours.
  • Avoid swimming pools and the gym for 24 to 48 hours.
  • Use only gentle, fragrance-free products on the area until any redness settles.
  • A cool compress or aloe vera gel soothes warmth and redness.

By treatment

Laser & IPL hair removal

Before your session

  • At your first consultation you get a care pack to start you off: an exfoliating mitt, silver gel and your aftercare sheet.
  • Shave the area thoroughly 24 hours before, and come with clean skin, no creams or deodorant, in loose clothing.
  • Unshaved areas cannot be treated on the day, as long hair can damage the equipment. We cannot take responsibility for areas that have not been prepared.
  • Keep to the session spacing your laser technician recommends. Long gaps can hold back your results.

What to expect

  • Redness and swelling, especially around the hair follicles, can last 7 to 21 days.
  • The area may feel hot and itchy for 7 to 21 days. This can be mild or strong, depending on your skin.
  • Areas with pigment may look darker at first. The pigment rises to the surface, crusts and then flakes off.

Do not

  • Wax, tweeze, pluck, thread, epilate or use hair removal cream.
  • Use fake tan or sun beds.
  • Use perfumed lotions, body sprays or underarm deodorant for the first 48 hours.
  • Go out in the sun for 3 to 7 days, as it can cause dark spots or burns. Stay covered in long sleeves, loose long trousers and a wide-brimmed hat, and use a broad-spectrum physical sunscreen of at least SPF 30 or 50 every day.
  • Pick or scrub the treated area, which can cause scarring.
  • Take hair vitamin supplements or anything containing biotin during your course, as they can encourage hair growth.

Avoid

  • Hard exercise and saunas. Heat traps sweat and irritates the newly sensitive follicles.
  • Hot showers and steam. Wash in cool or lukewarm water and pat your skin dry with a clean, soft towel rather than rubbing.
  • Hot tubs and heavily chlorinated pools for a week, as they can irritate the skin and carry a risk of infection.
  • Make-up on freshly treated areas, especially the face, for at least 48 hours.
  • Chemical peels, scrubs and harsh body brushes.
  • Retinol and perfumed moisturisers. Use aloe vera instead.
  • Deodorant for 48 hours if we treated your underarms.

Look after the area

  • Keep the treated area clean.
  • Soothe redness or swelling with a cool compress or ice pack, and cool the area with aloe vera.
  • Wear loose clothing for the first 72 hours.
  • Shave only, between and during your sessions.
  • After a week, start exfoliating gently in the shower to help the hair shed.
  • Let the hair shed on its own. It takes about 1 to 3 weeks to fall out of the follicle, so do not pull it out.

Good to know

  • As well as your complimentary care pack, an ice pack, silver gel and aloe vera are worth having at home. Treat the area like a burn: keep it cool, wear loose clothing and look after it for the next few days.
  • If you become pregnant or your medication changes, tell us straight away.

Before and after

  • No sun beds or sunbathing for 4 weeks before and after each session. Planning a holiday? Tell us so we can plan around it, and wear SPF 50 on treated areas while you are away.
  • If you pick up a tan on the area, tell us straight away. We need to wait 4 weeks before treating again. Arriving with an active tan without telling us means we have to turn you away, and the full session fee applies.
  • Fake tan is fine from 2 weeks after treatment, but it must be completely off the skin 10 days before your next one.
  • No nasal tanners during your course.
  • No Botox or filler in the treated area for 2 weeks before and after.
  • Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol for 24 hours before and after.
  • Avoid ibuprofen for 48 hours before and after your session.
IPL skin treatments
  • Your skin will be red and a little swollen for a few hours, like mild sunburn. A cool compress helps.
  • Pigment may look darker for a few days, then flake away. Do not pick it.
  • Keep direct sun off the treated skin, and no sun beds or tanning lamps.
  • No waxing during your course. You can wax again about 4 weeks after your last session.
  • Avoid retinoids and exfoliating acids for 5 days.
  • Mineral make-up is fine after 24 hours.
Tattoo & SPMU removal
  • The area may frost white, then turn red and slightly swollen. This is normal.
  • Keep it clean and dry for 24 hours, then pat dry after washing.
  • Blisters can form. Do not pop them; let them heal naturally.
  • Apply a thin layer of a healing balm and keep the area covered from the sun.
Carbon facial
  • Mild redness for a few hours is normal. Aloe vera helps.
  • Keep skin clean and dry while it is red.
  • Make-up is fine once the redness has gone.
  • SPF 50 every day for at least a month.
Facial with lash lift & tint, brow shape, lamination & tint

Do not

  • Rub your lashes or brows.
  • Get your lashes or brows wet for at least 24 hours.
  • Wear make-up for at least 24 hours.

Avoid for 24 hours

  • Heat, steam and anything that makes you hot, like exercise.
  • Sunbathing, which can make the lash curl relax and the results fade sooner.
  • Swimming and saunas.
  • Perfumed products.
  • Any further facial treatments.

Also avoid

  • Long spells in the sun or under UV lights, which make tint fade faster.
  • Sleeping on your face, which can disturb the lamination.
  • Oily products on the face.
  • Cutting or trimming your lashes or brows.
  • Alcohol, drugs and smoking, and cut down on caffeine.

Keep it up

  • Hydrate. Drinking water flushes your system, brightens you up and keeps your skin clear.
  • Wash every morning and night, then moisturise.
  • SPF 30 or higher every day, even in winter.
  • Brush your brows daily in the direction of the lamination.
  • Use a hydrating brow serum at home to encourage growth and keep the hairs hydrated.
  • Enjoy feeling the best version of you. Take lots of pictures and tag @smoothpeach on Instagram, Facebook or TikTok.

Good to know

  • A lash lift and brow lamination fade within 6 to 12 weeks, depending on your hair growth cycle.
  • Regular facials support your skin's natural cell turnover, unclog pores and boost collagen. Treating dullness, dryness and signs of ageing on a steady schedule helps prevent problems in the long term.
  • If redness or irritation occurs, gently wash the area with water and hold a damp cotton pad over the brows or lashes as a compress. If it does not settle, seek medical advice.
